Wayne Pines

Mr. Pines is an internationally-known consultant on regulatory, media and crisis matters involving pharmaceuticals and medical devices. He helps companies address challenges involving the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) or related agencies, and also specializes in crisis management response and communications.    

He formerly served as the Associate Commissioner for Public Affairs at the FDA.  In the private sector, he has served in senior positions in international public relations and public affairs agencies.  In addition to his present consulting role at Core Risks Ltd. (CRL), he is also a senior counselor at Apco Worldwide.      

He is the author and /or editor of several books about crisis communications, risk management and FDA regulatory processes. He wrote the FDA Advertising and Promotion Manual and  co-authored "A Framework for Pharmaceutical Risk Management and Pharmaceutical Risk Management: Practical Applications", both of which deal with risk management for pharmaceuticals.   He edited "When Lightning Strikes, A Delicate Balance, and Communicating in a Healthcare Crisis"/ "How to Work with the FDA, and FDA: A Century of Consumer Protection".  Mr. Pines is also the co-editor, together with Kenneth Piña, of "A Practical Guide to Food and Drug Law and Regulation", a leading reference text that is used in numerous Law School and Pharmacy School programs.

He is lead independent director of Scolr Pharma (AMEX: DDD), and also chairs its governance and nominating committee.  He sits on the boards of The Patient Channel, a GE subsidiary that provides medical programming to 1,700 hospitals, as well as  the FDA Alumni Association. He is Chairman of the Board at the MedStar Health Research Institute, which oversees research at nine hospitals in the Baltimore-Washington area and  also serves as President of the Alliance for a Stronger FDA, a coalition of 180 organizations and companies seeking to educate Congress and Administration about the need for increased funding of the FDA.

Mr. Pines is listed in Who's Who in America.  In 2004, he was named Alumnus of the Year by the FDA.
